The size of the global merchandise import market is estimated at around USD 7 trillion. About USD 4 trillion goes under open account while the balance of around USD 3 trillion is trade financed cross border.

There are several ways to finance a trade . A lettter of credit is the most common form of trade financing as it is quite secure and is adopted worldwide . Other forms of trade financing include account receivable financing, factoring, forfaiting, etc.

To a certain extent trade financing can easily improve a company’s cashflow, if done properly. Therefore it is very important to develop a good working relationship with your banker. There are a few sources available offshore for trade financing with very attractive terms.
